HOUSING AGENCY: Applications open for Housing Agency’s Affordable ARU Program

Kauai County Housing Agency issued the following announcement on Dec. 14.

The Kaua‘i County Housing Agency is now accepting applications for its Affordable Additional Rental Unit (ARU) Program.

The Affordable ARU Program implements a series of six ordinances enacted by the Kaua‘i County Council and signed by Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami in December 2019. 

The purpose of these ordinances is to promote the construction of ARUs and provide incentives to
those building ARUs.

Under this program, homeowners whose property qualifies for an ARU can receive various fee waivers and direct subsidies totaling nearly $20,000 if they agree to rent their ARU at a price affordable to someone earning 90% or less of the Kaua‘i Median Income, for at least
five years.
