County Of Kaua‘i Department of Public Works issued the following announcement on Dec. 21.

The Solid Waste Division is requesting the public’s assistance in ensuring proper recycling this Holiday Season. During the holidays, many residents generate more refuse and recyclables.

“To prepare for additional recycling volume, the County will allocate extra capacity at the eight Kaua‘i Recycles drop bins stationed around the island,” said Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami. “Loads left outside of the recycling bins can quickly be contaminated by water, dirt, and other material, making them unrecyclable.”

The County’s recycling contractor, Garden Isle Disposal, will likely be providing extra hauls to keep up with the volume as well. However, if some residents can delay their recycling activities over the next couple of weeks, it would go a long way to maximize recycling efforts.
