On Saturday, Mayor Derek Kawakami joined Kaua‘i County Council member Felecia Cowden, Consulate General of the Republic of the Marshall Islands Isabela Silk, the Marshallese Association of Kaua‘i, and the Marshallese community to celebrate Marshall Islands Constitution Day.
Observed of May 1, this holiday is also known as Jemenei Day and recognizes the independence of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and celebrates the traditions and cultures of the Marshallese community.
We thank the Marshallese Association of Kaua‘i for its coordination and outreach efforts at various COVID-relief community events, food distributions, and providing other crucial resources to our Marshallese community during the pandemic.
We commemorate the 43rd Marshall Islands Constitution Day and call upon the people of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau to celebrate Marshallese independence, their traditions, and the many contributions to our community.
