--Police identify victim involved in hit-and-run on Nov. 22--
LĪHU‘E – Kaua‘i police have identified the bicyclist involved in a hit-and-run at Rice Street on Nov. 22. William Browning, 47, of Līhu‘e, died of injuries from the traffic crash.
This is Kaua‘i’s ninth traffic fatality of the year.
Police continue to search for the driver involved in the traffic crash that occurred on Nov. 22.
Shortly after 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 22, officers were dispatched to Rice Street, fronting the Līhu‘e Town Plaza, after it was reported that a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene before the arrival of first responders.
According to a preliminary investigation, the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Rice Street when he was struck from behind by a white Toyota Tacoma that was also traveling west. The Tacoma was described as having an extra-cab and pipe racks.
The bicyclist was treated on the scene and transported to Wilcox Medical Center in critical condition.
Rice Street was closed in both directions for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, while KPD’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
