This International Women’s Day we would like to recognize the legacy of Hawaiʻi’s own Patsy Mink.Patsy Takemoto Mink served 12 terms as the U.S. Representative from Hawai’i’s first and second congressional districts during her political career that spanned from 1956 to 2002. In 1972, she co-authored the Title IX Amendment for equal opportunity for women in education, later named after her. A few titles to learn more about Patsy Mink and her accomplishments are listed below.
Hawaiʻi State Library is the proud host of a bronze sculpture by artist Holly Young titled “Patsy T. Mink”. The sculpture was commissioned by the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (@hawaii_sfca) and dedicated on December 6, 2018.

Co-authored by her daughter, political scientist Gwendolyn Mink, and historian Judy Tzu-Chun Wu, this work discusses Mink's decades-long work for women's equality, civil rights, environmental humanism, and peace.
