Kauai Department of Public Works issued the following announcement on Dec. 8.
The Solid Waste Division is glad to announce that a new shipment of Earth Machine Home Compost bins has arrived and are available to residents free of charge at the Kaua‘i Resource Center located at 3460 Ahukini Road in Līhu‘e.
Due to COVID-19 distancing protocol, bins are available by appointment only at this time. To set up an appointment to receive a composting bin, please email solidwaste@kauai.gov or call 241-4841.
Bins are available Monday through Friday from 8a.m.to 3:30 p.m. The Earth Machine Compost bins are for residential use only and are meant to manage kitchen scraps and a small amount of yard waste. Distribution is one bin per home. Large landowners, businesses, non-profits, and farm operations should consider creating compost bins and pilesout of reusable supplies such as pallets or old tarps.

Due to staffing constraints and security concerns, we askthat residents ensure that they pick-up their bins during their appointment time. Bins will not be available outside of appointments.
